Prospective BA Students to enter in Fall 2008

Congratulations to those who have been accepted into our Baccalaureate degree program in Elementary Education provided through Diné College (DC) and Arizona State University (ASU) dependent upon acceptance to ASU College of Education and completion of courses in Spring 2008 and Summer 2008.

In our program you will be taking the junior and senior-level courses for professional knowledge in teaching kindergarten through 8th grade students in Navajo Nation schools. The coursework will be rigorous and you will have the support of committed and experienced instructors throughout the four full-time semesters.

Remember!!!
You are headed towards becoming a certified teacher
AND in completion of our program you will be eligible
for the ESL/SEI endorsement and with additional Navajo courses, for language proficiency, the Bilingual endorsement.

Scholarship funds are available to those who qualify and apply as early as possible. These funds go quickly, so please complete the online ASU application ASAP! The sooner, the better!

Apply to ASU Main

  • The website address is www.asu.edu/apply. Be sure to indicate "Main/Tempe campus" when applying.

  • Your major is Multi-lingual Multicultural Education (MLMC).
  • There is a $25 application fee you must pay.

Apply to ASU College of Education

  • Complete the online application. This only takes two minutes to complete and it will ensure that we have appropriate and accurate contact information for the students.

Complete the Freedom from Conviction of a Crime form

  • This form is a part of the Arizona Department of Education website and outlines the crimes which would adversely effect certification and students need to be informed of this prior to entering a teacher cert program.

Send Transcripts to ASU

  • Request transcripts be sent to ASU for every college you have attended. You must send transcripts at the time of application, at the end of the Fall semester and at the end of each semester you take courses to fulfill the General Studies requirements.

Send Immunization Record to ASU

  • Proof of two measles/mumps/rubella immunizations must be sent to:

Apply for Federal Financial Aid, Navajo Nation Scholarship, and other Scholarships

  • Complete the Federal form (FASFA) online http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Be sure to indicate you will begin at ASU in Fall 2008. You will need to use the code: 001081.

  • Complete Navajo Nation Scholarship forms. Be sure to indicate you are accepted in our program. It is highly recommended you work with the NN Scholarship Office here on the Tsaile campus. Valarie Lee is your contact person here and she is very familiar with our program.

Complete Proof of Residency

  • This can be done online and can be taken care of with a driver's license and copy of your CIB sent to residency@asu.edu or by fax. Contact information:

Complete Fingerprint Clearance forms

  • The forms are available from Ben Barney or Glo Brown.

  • On the application, indicate you are getting clearance as a "Paid Employee". (Since the clearance will still be valid after you graduate and when we expect you will be hired by a school.) A fee of $52 is required.
  • Put your personal information on the form and take the fingerprint card to a police station. They must complete the fingerprint impression.  Use the brown envelop to mail the completed forms to:

Enroll in courses

  • You must enroll in Diné College Spring 2008 and Summer 2008 courses to satisfy your pre-professional general education requirements for a B.A. degree. Talk with your CDTE faculty advisor to make sure you have selected the proper general education courses.

  • You will enroll in ASU courses Fall 2008 after receiving the admissions letter from ASU, and submitting proof of immunization (MMR).

When accepted to ASU College of Education

  • You will receive an official letter of acceptance from ASU.

  • Beginning in the Fall 2008 semester, you will be enrolling in courses through MyASU. When you are ready, click here for the specific line numbers.
