Entry Requirements for the ASU/DC BA in Elementary Education

The current BA degree in Elementary Education is a collaborative program with Arizona State University. Upon completion of the coursework, a graduate will be qualified to teach in K-8 classrooms and fulfill the requirements for Arizona ESL and SEI endorsements. Reciprocity exists between New Mexico and Arizona so applicants from New Mexico are encouraged to apply. Additional courses need to be taken for bilingual endorsement in Arizona.  Our program offers the degree through approaches that promote Diné philosophy, culture, history, language and literacy. The program aims to develop teachers with the necessary values, knowledge, skills, and confidence so that they may promote children's academic skills and cultural identities in Navajo and English.

Admission Criteria:

  • Completion of approximately 56 hours of appropriate and transferable coursework at the freshman-sophomore level with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better, including ENG 101, ENG 102, MTH 114, at least one science with lab course, NAV 211 with an average of "C" or better, and ideally by having successfully completed all Navajo language courses.

  • Submission of a complete application packet.

  • Recommendation of acceptance after interview conducted by committee.

  • Fingerprint clearance and other initial requirements such as MMR, etc.  A list is available on the link provided.

Application for admission can begin in August one year prior to starting Fall cohort classes. This is most desirable for scholarship purposes. Final date for application submission to enter a new Fall Cohort is June 1 of the entry year. Faculty Advisors are available to support students. Please call 928.724.6699 with any questions.
