Assessment of our
Elementary Education Baccalaureate Program
through the CDTE Mission

The process for living life according to Sa'ah Naaghai Bik'eh Hozhoon is always present for an individual. Nitsáhákees, Nahat'á , Íiná , Siihasin serve as guides for achieving success. This is a recursive and ongoing process of living through understanding one's place, oneself, and our relationships to others and our environment.

The CDTE vision and mission guide the assessment of our program. At this time, instruments used to understand program success  include the field experience assessments, vignettes, course evaluations, etc. Additional instruments are being considered which address attributes we anticipate exhibited by a successful student in our program.

VISION
Our vision is to encourage individuals towards dispositions as teachers who will academically support Navajo Nation children.

MISSION Statement

The mission of the Diné Teacher Education Program is to prepare individuals for
responsible learning, living, and teaching according to the Diné way of life,
Sa'ah Naaghai Bik'eh Hozhoon. The purpose of our program is to develop teachers
with the necessary values, knowledge, skills, and confidence so that they may
promote children's academic skills and confident cultural identities in Navajo and English.

PROGRAM Philosophy

The Center for Diné Teacher Education Elementary Education program reflects the goals of the Diné College Education Philosophy which integrates Diné holistic teaching in accordance with the Sa'ah Naaghai Bik'eh Hozhoon.

PROGRAM Goals

With Sa'ah Naaghai Bik'eh Hozhoon framing a pedagogical paradigm, the program goals support learning as an ongoing and recursive process informed by Nitsáhákees,  Nahat'á , Íiná , Siihasin within the context of community and family. These goals include the importance of recognition of responsibility towards self within responsibilities towards family and community as expressed in Diné as "T'áá hó ájít'éego as'ah oodáá?" and "T'áá hó ájíte'égo hózhógo oonish." Another essential principle embedded in the Diné Way of life is K'é which emphasizes the inter-connectedness of all beings influencing responsibilities and ways to communicate with those they encounter daily and other Diné people when they first meet.

Our program goal is to apply and support all participants to better understand principles towards living a life according to Sa'ah Naaghai Bik'eh Hozhoon using Nitsáhákees,  Nahat'á , Íiná , Siihasin to inform and guide us. This is a recursive and ongoing process of living through understanding one's place, oneself, and our relationships to others and our environment.
