Self-Selected Mentoring
|
Each academic year, NSAPP students
are asked to identify a mentor who would help them better understand
a particular area of leadership unique to their needs. They select
and schedule the experience. They present a rationale for the
selection and follow the mentoring experience with a report on
lessons learned. |

Academic
English Writing Institute
|
Cohort II will use lessons learned
from the first cohort and begin a new institute in Fall 2008 which
will be ongoing through Spring 2010.
For Cohort I, the goal of this
institute was to strengthen NSAPP students' writing skills as well as
for the cohort to gain knowledge and/or review information in
the AEPA content areas in preparation for the exam to be taken
in the Summer of 2008. Mr. Irvin Morris (imorris@dinecollege.edu)
and Mr.Stuart Heady (sheady@dinecollege.edu)
began work with NSAPP students in June 2007 and continued through
the end of August 2007.

Academic Navajo
Speaking & Writing Institute
|
In this mentoring institute, Cohort I
students' Navajo speaking and writing skills are a focus. In our
initial phase, Ms. Amelia Black (aiblack@dinecollege.edu)
created products for NSAPP participants to utilize for signage,
letters for specfic purposes, and initial support for
individual students to support greater confidence in Navajo speaking
and writing for school-related purposes.

AEPA Test-Taking Preparation
|
There are few people in the world
who like taking standardized tests. In recognition of this, we have
developed a mentoring experience for NSAPP students to prepare for
successful completion of the AEPA for K-12 administrators. This has
been ongoing since Fall 2007 through the support of Dr. Jacqueline
Holiday and will continue through Summer 2008 for Cohort I.
The lessons learned from this
process will be used to support Cohort II beginning in Fall 2008.

Finance Institute
|
Held in May 2006, financial
administrators from school districts joined together for a one-day
institute facilitated by Ms. Gloria Emerson. Practical advice on
reading budgets, managing budgets and even fine-tuning MS Excel
skills were included in the institute.

Archival Work
|
In recognition of busy
schedules and a need to capture the wisdom, insights, and experiences
of adminstrators in schools, Gloria Emerson worked with mentors
to archive materials which will be made accessible through the
Diné College libraries for NSAPP researchers. |
