Navajo School Administrator Preparation Program 
Admissions Criteria, Process, and Timetable


Admissions Criteria
Admission to this program requires a completed application packet and formal interview. Admission is based not only on previous academic achievement and experience, but also on the recognition that effective leaders have specific personal characteristics and dispositions. Requirements for applicants:

  • Native American

  • Hold at least a Bachelor degree in an Education-related field

  • Taught in K-12 schools for at least 3 years

  • Hold a current valid teacher certification

  • Committed to work in a Navajo Nation school upon completion of program. Students will be required to sign an agreement which indicates: if student drops from the program or does not work at least 3 years after completion of the program he/she will be required to payback all funds provided by the grant.

Process
Completion of Application

  • The process for admission to this program begins with an email notifying NSAPP of your interest. Send an email to Ms. Gloria Emerson (gemerson@dinecollege.edu) and Dr. Janel Hinrichsen (janel@dinecollege.edu).

  • Complete the following items and send them as a packet to NSAPP, Center for Diné Teacher Education, PO Box 407, Tsaile AZ 86556.

    Include these items in your packet:

      1. Current resume
      2. Copy of current valid teacher certification
      3. Two letters of support (One from an administrator and one from a peer)
      4. An essay explaining 1) your concept of school leadership, 2) your view of Navajo language and culture in schools on the Navajo Nation, and 3) ethics and Navajo education.
      5. A statement explaining how you show or have shown leadership abilities in a school or comunity.
